The Ferrari 488 Spider has radical new muscular styling sculpted to achieve aerodynamic requirements, while brilliantly reflecting the drop-top driving pleasure focused on sportiness and performance. Remarkably, the Retractable Hard Top (RHT) unfolds and retracts in a record 14 seconds and can be raised or lowered when the car is moving. Classic Ferrari mid-engine sports car proportions: a single grill opening and the short muscular front wing lend a sense of power and speed. The central Aero Pillar and an F1-inspired double spoiler dominate the front of the car. The raised central bonnet and two side channels, meld into the subtle crease lines forming the scallops on the door drawing the eye to the new side air intakes and flowing over the rear bumper. The air intakes combined with the innovative aerodynamic underbody that incorporates vortex generators, special curved aerodynamic appendages accelerate the air thereby reducing pressure. The result is that the car’s underbody is “sucked” down to the ground and downforce is higher but drag is not. The 488 Spider embodies the purest sense of driving exhilaration and emotion.

The Ferrari 488 Spider is the most innovative and highest performance Ferrari Spider ever produced. At the heart of the 488 Spider is 3902 cc power unit, the turbocharged engine delivers blistering performance, 661 HP at 8,000 rpm, 561 lbs/ft of torque, and .08 second throttle response time and its own distinct Ferrari soundtrack. The evolved version of Ferrari’s side slip angle control system (SSC2) delivers 12% faster longitudinal acceleration out of corners than the 458 Spider. Variable Torque Management produces incredibly fast shifts and acceleration, with progressively greater torque values in higher gears. Prancing Horse engineers amazingly succeeded in maximizing downforce while minimizing drag, resulting in an aerodynamic efficiency of 1.53, a new record for a Ferrari production Spider. The new Brembo Extreme Design braking system shortens stopping distances by 9% compared to the previous model, and new callipers allow optimal cooling under extreme driving.

The cabin of the 488 Spider is inspired by the Ferrari Formula 1 philosophy creating a seamless relationship between the driver and car. Paddle shifters and key commands are clustered on the steering wheel or on nearby satellite pods, which are angled toward the driver. The new lighter, horizontally more compact dashboard curves around the cockpit and features ultra-sporty air vents. The 488 Spider’s new door panels have been meticulously improved, the result is a new level of comfort to the touch, and a more ergonomic armrest. The 488 Spider features keyless start so that the car can be started or turned off by simply pressing the “Start/Stop Engine” button on the steering wheel.
